Help!

Okay, in case anyone still reads this, we need your help.

We're trying to decide whether to bring Maxx back with us. He's driving my family bonkers with his idiosyncrasies, and though they try to put on a brave face about the situation, their voices crack and tears of frustration can be heard across the miles. I'm fairly certain that my dear mother has acquired a new streak of white hair because of the little guy.

There are several things to consider before we decide to bring him over, but the one factor with which I need your help is finding a pet carrier. United Airlines, our flight from PA to DC to Berlin to Athens (a HORRIBLE schedule), are incredibly stupid about their dimensions for pets in the cabin: 17x10x10. Most other airlines have a 22x12x10, but apparently United only wants kittens on their flights.

I've found a few options, but most of them fudge the dimensions by 1/2 an inch to an inch. Help me find something! Maxx has those long dancer's legs, and the thought of squeezing him into a tissue box pains me.

Help us help my parents!

TAKE THE POLL ON THE RIGHT!

I think both Maxx and your parents will be much happier. What about a soft-sided pet carrier that would meet the limitations but give him a little flexibility? Like this: http://www.capedogbakery.com/shopping/carriers.htm

or these: http://www.sitstay.com/dog/supplies/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&categoryId=13988&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=13323&top_category=&AID=365512&PID=1490534

Good luck!

That's the most ridiculous pet carrier size I've ever heard of. But, I definitely say you need to have him with you over there. It'd be good for you two, as well as Maxxie and the parents. I know I couldn't accept being separated from Hen for that long. I'll keep a lookout on carriers for you.

Jan, I totally agree that my parents would be happier, and Maxx would love having us around, but what about the long days here? It also cuts down on summer travel opportunities, though if we can find an island villa to rent for the summer, we could happily have him. Thanks for the great links! The first one looks promising.

Yeah, being away from Maxx is especially in the evening when it was 'curl up with dwain and Miah' time for him. I don't miss him in the mornings when he attacked me, but I'd take anything right now! And my poor parents... You know how Maxx is.

Get him a tranquilizer for the journey.

I'd love Maxx to be with you, but two things prevent me from saying that for certain:
a) safe transport to Greece -- I've heard of pets dying from mistreatment (no AC in summer, etc.), mishandling or shock;
b) the likelihood of being poisoned while you're not around -- he'd have to stay indoors all the time you're at work, and you need to make sure he doesn't eat anything on the street or let neighbors or strangers fuss with him. People put poison in treats, food and their yards because they consider pets to be dirty.

You could still travel with him in summer. Renting an apartment is quite easy and often cheaper than a hotel or villa.

I've never met him, but he sure is cute.
